What is
the Windows Registry
The Windows registry is a directory which
stores settings and options for the operating
system for Microsoft Windows 32-bit versions,
64-bit versions and Windows Mobile. It contains
information and settings for all the hardware,
operating system software, most non-operating
system software, users, preferences of the PC,
etc.
Why
Registry Problems Occur
Whenever a user makes changes to the Control
Panel settings, file associations, system
policies or any installed software, the
changes are reflected and stored in the windows
registry. The registry also provides a window
into the operation of the kernel, exposing
runtime information such as performance
counters and currently active hardware.
As more hardware and software is installed
and uninstalled, the registry gets filled
up with incomplete or empty command
signals, broken drivers and unused
applications. As the file sizes exceed the
registry size limits, the registry becomes
fragmented and corrupt which leads to a decline
in the performance of the computer. It
could even cause the computer to
crash.
It is crucial that the computer's
registry be cleaned regularly so that it
runs smoothly and free of errors. While
you can scan and edit the registry manually,
it will be very time-consuming and
frustrating. You also run the risk
of compounding the existing problem and
losing precious data if you do it
incorrectly. Rather use a good registry
repair software, which will save you time and
money as well as your computer in
one click of a button.
How Does Registry Repair
Software work?
The registry softwares job is
to find erroneous entries
and delete them safely. You could do
it yourself but it would take
VERY LONG and will more than likely
result in data corruption and other
problems.
Registry repair software works
through your PC registry one line at a
time and removes the entires which are no
longer needed. These include but are not
limited to:
1. Old hardware entries -
These items may no longer be in use. They are
just wasting space and leading your machine to
believe that they may still be needed.
2. Obsolete Startup Items:
These entries are often associated with
software you may have removed or since stopped
using. These items will often cause errors upon
startup and must be removed carefully in order
to prevent a potential problem.
3. Obsolete
software references: If you think that
software you uninstalled is totally wiped from
your machine think again! When you use the
control panel to uninstall software, there are
often entries left behind. Believe it or not
these entries can indeed get in the way of your
CURRENT working software.
4. Invalid
shortcuts: the registry contains
references to shortcuts which may no longer
exist. These references often confuse a user
and can lead to unnecessary error messages.
These too are removed by a quality registry
cleaning software.
5. Duplicate
entries: Much like there may be
duplicate files on your computer, there can be
duplicate registry entries as well! These
entries slow your down your overall computer
performance and are completely unnecessary.
Now before any permanent changes are made a
good quality registry program will
AUTOMATICALLY backup the entire registry as it
was before it is repaired. This is done to
insure that you have a WORKING copy as a backup
in case of any future problems.
We highly recommend Registry Easy for all of
your registry maintenance needs. It fulfills
all of the above requirements and
is extremely easy to use.
